Florida is known for its year-round warm weather, but springtime in the Sunshine State brings a new set of challenges, particularly for car owners. Pollen season in Florida typically lasts from February to May, with the peak occurring in March and April. During this time, washing your car regularly becomes even more critical to protect your vehicle from the effects of pollen.
Pollen is produced by plants as part of their reproductive process. It is carried by the wind and can land on your car's exterior, leaving a yellowish-green residue. Not only is it unflattering, but it can cause damage to your car's exterior if left on the vehicle. Pollen can accumulate on your car's surface, and over time, that will eat away at the clear coat protecting your paint. This is why it’s important to bring your car to the car wash!
You might be wondering, “why is my clear coat important?” When a car is manufactured, the paint is applied in several layers to the vehicle’s body. After the paint is applied, a clear coat goes over it to provide shine, luster and protection of that colored paint. When a foreign substance such as pollen is mixed with water, it turns acidic which will eat away at your clear coat. Once your clear coat is gone, all that is left is your vehicle’s actual paint, which results in faded and worn “spots” on the vehicle.
